Photo and media
Students appear in photographs throughout this site, most of them in the gallery. Here is what covers that and how to change it.
The permission we rely on
The school district asks parents to complete a media release each year. That release is what allows photographs of students to be published, and it's the same permission the school itself works from. It's renewed annually, so a decision you made last year doesn't bind you this year.
If you're not sure what you signed or want to change it, that goes through the school rather than through us. We follow whatever the district holds on file.
What we don’t do
- We don't name individual students in photo captions or in the descriptions written for screen readers. Photos are described by event, not by person.
- We don't publish a student’s grade, class schedule, contact details, or anything else alongside their image.
- We don't use photographs of students in advertising, or license them to anyone else, or allow them to be used to promote the people who build and maintain this site.
- We don't tag faces or run any kind of recognition over them.
Having a photo taken down
You don't need to give a reason and you don't need to be the parent of the student in the picture.
Email board@desertridgebands.org with the address of the page and enough description to find the photo. It comes down within three business days. We won't ask you to justify it first.
If it's urgent, say so in the subject line and we'll move faster.
Photographers
Many of the photographs on this site were taken by photographers who cover the band’s performances. They keep the copyright in their own work. If you want to use one of these images for anything, ask us and we'll point you at the right person rather than granting a permission that is not ours to give.
